Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
biodegradation in water: ready biodegradability
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study without detailed documentation
Remarks:
Test report does not contain full details of procedures followed. Results all present with graphs
Justification for type of information:
The substance that has been tested for this end point is the potassium salt of the hexadecyl dihydrogen phosphate. Once in solution, the potassium ion will dissociate from the substance leaving the hexadecyl hydrogen phosphate anion as the organic species that will undergo biodegradation. This is the same as the substance under consideration and thus read-across is considered totally valid.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 301 D (Ready Biodegradability: Closed Bottle Test)
GLP compliance:
yes
Remarks:
According to the QA report, this study was carried out using generally accepted Good Laboratory Practices
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Cola Fax CPE-K Lot# 33098b12
Oxygen conditions:
anaerobic
Inoculum or test system:
activated sludge (adaptation not specified)
Details on inoculum:
Source: Mattabasset Waste Water Treatment Plant, Cromwell, CT
Treatment given: Aeration
Preconditioning: None
Concentration in reaction mixture: 1 mg/l
Duration of test (contact time):
28 d
Initial conc.:
3.33 mg/L
Based on:
test mat.
Initial conc.:
2.116 mg/L
Based on:
ThOD
Parameter followed for biodegradation estimation:
O2 consumption
Reference substance:
benzoic acid, sodium salt
Key result
Parameter:
% degradation (O2 consumption)
Value:
> 60
Sampling time:
10 d
Key result
Parameter:
% degradation (O2 consumption)
Value:
> 60
Sampling time:
28 d
Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Interpretation of results:
readily biodegradable
Conclusions:
ColaFax CPE-K Lot#33098b12 would be considered as readily biodegradable, reading 60% ThoD within a 10 day window from 10% ThoD.
Results for the reference (sodium benzoate) and toxicity controls were acceptable.

Description of key information
