Since no studies investigating the toxicity trisodium hydrogen EDTA (CAS 150-38-9) to soil macroorganisms are available, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 a read-across to structurally related EDTA species was conducted. This read-across is justified in detail in the overall summary (IUCLID Section 6.3) and within the analogue justification in IUCLID Section 13.
For the assessment of toxicity to terrestrial organisms data from the source substance edetic acid (CAS 60-00-4) were used.
The available study was performed according to OECD 207 (Edwards et al., 2009). Eisenia fetida was exposed to EDTA in an artificial soil. Ten species were added to each test vessel and four replicates were prepared for each concentration. Concentrations of 0.1, 1.0, 10.0, 100.0, 1000.0 and 10000.0 mg/kg dw were tested including a control. After 14 d the mortality at the different test vessels was recorded and a LC50 (14 d) of 156.46 mg/kg soil dw resulted.
