Description of key information

A reliable 96-hour acute toxicity limit test with common carp (Cyprinus carpio) was conducted in accordance with the OECD test guideline 203. The 96-hour LC50 (mortality) was determined to be beyond the range tested at >0.058 mg/l.

A reliable 48-hour acute toxicity study with the aquatic invertebrate, Daphnia magna, was conducted in accordance with the OECD test guideline 202. The 48-hour EC50 (immobility) for Daphnia magna was beyond the range tested at >0.069 mg/l.

A reliable 72-hour toxicity study with the green alga, Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, was conducted in accordance with the OECD test guideline 201. The EC50 for growth rate inhibition was 0.041 mg/l (0.037-0.045 mg/l 95% CI). The NOEC for growth rate inhibition was 0.012 mg/l, based on biological relevance.

A reliable 3 hour toxicity study with bacteria from an activated sludge treatment plant was conducted in accordance with the OECD test guideline 209. Under the conditions of this present test, no toxicity was found to the waste water bacteria (activated sludge) at or below a loading rate of 1000 mg/l (NOELR). The ELR50 was >1000 mg/l.

Each of the tests were carried out using a saturated solution due to the low solubility of the test substance.
