Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In the assessment of diammonium hydrogen citrate, read-across to the assessment entities ammonium and citrate is applied since these dissociation products determine the fate and toxicity of diammonium hydrogen citrate in the environment.

Ammonium is an important nitrogen source for algae, cyanobacteria and macrophytes and with a 5d-EC50 of 1,300 mg/L (Chlorella vulgaris) of low potential toxicity. Also, citrate in the form of citric acid is of low potential toxicity with a7d-EC50 of 640 mg/L for freshwater algae Scenedesmus subspicatus under neutralised conditions and 7d-EC50 > 100 mg/L (graphical estimation) for four different saltwater algae species under non-neutralised conditions, respectively. Thus, diammonium hydrogen citrate has a low potential for toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria.
