Any other information on results incl. tables
Data from review of lithium carbonate published by US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and listed in RTECS
Three acute studies are cited in the review and the range is reported above.
The review does not include clinical signs, but other sources suggest effects to kidneys; this is similar to th etoxic effects of sodium.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Interpretation of results:
- study cannot be used for classification
- Conclusions:
- The results do not impact on the classification and are provided as an indicator of the possible toxicity of lithium. It should be noted that the NOAEL for lithium carbonate in repeated studies is not a lot lower than the LD50 and several publications note a sharp borderline between tolerated levels and toxic levels.
