Test series:
other: European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Methods for the determination of physico-chemical properties (Part A)
Method:
other: EC A. 14 Explosive properties
Parameter:
other: thermal sensitivity, mechanical sensitivity to shock and friction
Result:
negative, no explosion
Remarks on result:
no ignition, explosion, self-heating or visible decomposition

THERMAL STABILITY:

A DSC measurement in a closed glass crucible with the test item placed in a high pressure crucible showed an endothermal effect in the temperature range of 450 - 490 °C.

A second DSC measurement in a closed glass crucible with the test item showed an endothermal effect in the temperature range of 425 - 495 °C.

EXPLOSIVE PROPERTIES:

The test item is an inorganic compound. Therefore the main test on explosive properties had to be performed.

Mechanical sensitivity (friction): As the test item is hygroscopic, sieving before the measurement was not possible. No explosion occurred within 6 tests using a pinload of 360 N.

Mechanical sensitivity (shock): As the test item is hygroscopic, sieving before the measurement was not possible. No explosion within 6 tests using a mass of 10 kg falling from a height of 0.4 m was observed.

Thermal sensitivity: Three tests were performed with a circular nozzle plate with a hole of 2 mm diameter. No explosion was observed.

Interpretation of results:
other: not explosive
Conclusions:
The test item has no explosive properties.
Executive summary:

The test item had no explosive properties in the sense of the European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Method A. 14.

Description of key information

Based on a study performed according to the European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Method A.14, the test item has no explosive properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment
