Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Manganese dioxide is a black to Brownish-Black Solid tetragonal Crystal odorless at 101325 Pa and 20 °C.

The substance decomposes before melting at 535 °C.

The density of the substance is 5.08 g/cm^3.

The particle size of MnO2 is indicated in the certificate of analysis of extra-EU manufacturer (100 mesh passing = 100%; 325 mesh passing = 95.0%)

No reliable measured data are available for water solubility, however based on thermodynamic considerations, manganese dioxide is considered to be almost insoluble in surface water.

Due to its inorganic propierties, the test related to partition coefficient in n-octanol/water is scientifically unjustified.

Since it is a solid, properties like vapour pressure, surface tension and flash point can be neglected.

Mangenese dioxide is not expected to be explosive and based on the known experience in the handling and use of substances it is a strong oxidizing agent.
