Acute tests on all three trophic levels were performed to examine the aquatic toxicity. Salmo gairdneri turned out to be the most sensitive species revealing an LC50 (96h) of 2.8 mg/L. A supporting study on Lepomis macrochirus revealed a LC50 of 3.8 mg/L.

Additionally, acute tests were performed on daphnids which revealed a comparable sensitivity (EC50 (48 h) of 4 mg/L). Algal growth rate revealed an EC50 > 100 mg/L.

In conclusion, the substance is considered to be acutely toxic to aquatic organisms.

The long term toxicity on aquatic invertebrates was investigated in a reproduction study on Daphnia magna. The respective NOEC was at 0.23 mg/L. Further long term tests on fish are not provided because the acute data for both organisms (trout and bluegill) are in the same range of toxicity. According to the ECETOCs acute to chronic ratio conversion a NOEC of 0.24 mg/L for trout and 0.33 mg/L for bluegill can be derived which does not deliver any extra knowledge about the substance' toxic behaviour. Therefore, and for reasons of animal welfare a further long term test with fish is not provided.
