Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Validity criteria fulfilled:
- yes
- Conclusions:
- Kn 172 is considered very toxic to aquatic invertebrates (Daphnia magna)
- Executive summary:
Three experiments were performed under flow-through conditions. As the test item wasn't
stable under test conditions and in the samples which were taken for analytical determination,
the results of the analytical determination in the first and the second experiment were
considered as insufficient. Therefore a third experiment was performed.
The experiments were performed using seven treatments containing 0.046 - 4.6 mg/L
(nominal concentration). Twenty daphnia per concentration were exposed to the test item
for 48 hours in a flow-through test system. After 24 and 48 hours, the immobilised daphnia
were counted.
At the beginning, after 2, 24 and 48 hours, the content of the test item in the test solutions
(inflow and outlet) was determined using HPLC. All samples are measured separately and
directly after sampling and not by using an auto sampler.
The determination of the results was based on the geometric mean of the measured concentrations
in the inflows and the outlets and the arithmetic mean of the four measurements.
In the third experiment, all quality control criteria were met. The 24h-EC50i of potassium
dichromate was tested as positive control. The value was determined as 1.7 mg/L, lying
within the demanded range of 0.6 - 1.7 mg/L.
The following results were determined for the test item Kn 172 (species: Daphnia magna).
24h and 48h NOEC = 0.01 mg/L
24h EC50r = 0.40 mg/L
48h ECsq = 0.16 mg/L
24h EC100r = 3.65 mg/L
48h EC100r = 0.83 mg/L
