First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

General information:

-

After inhalation:

Move to fresh air, keep the victim laying down and restful. If breathing has stopped, give artificial respiration. Seek medical advice

and clearly identify substance.

After contact with the skin:

Wash immediately with plenty of water. Remove contaminated clothes at once. Do not use ointments or plasters unless

recommended by medical practitioner. Seek medical advice and clearly identify substance.

After contact with the eyes:

Rinse immediately with plenty of water for 10-15 minutes and seek medical advice. Keep eyelids well open to rinse the whole eye

surface and eyelids with water. Continue to bathe eyes during transport to medical practitioner.

After swallowing:

Rinse mouth with water. If conscious, give several small portions of water to drink. Seek medical advice immediately and produce

the label or packaging.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Any relevant information can be found in other parts of this section.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

No data are available.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media:

alcohol-resistant foam.

Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons:

water , halones .

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Hazardous combustion products: nitrous gases , carbon monoxide .

Advice for firefighters

Special protective equipment for fire fighting:

Use respiratory protection independent of recirculated air.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Wear personal protection equipment (see section Exposure controls/personal protection). Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Avoid inhaling mists and vapours. If material is released indicate risk of slipping. Keep unprotected persons away.

Environmental precautions

Prevent material from entering surface waters, drains or sewers and soil. Contain any fluid that runs out using suitable material

(e.g. earth). Retain contaminated water/extinguishing water. Dispose of in prescribed marked containers.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Do not flush away with water. For small amounts: Absorb with a liquid binding material such as diatomaceous earth and dispose

of according to local/state/federal regulations. Contain larger amounts and pump up into suitable containers. Clean any slippery

coating that remains using a detergent / soap solution or another biodegradable cleaner.

Further information:

Eliminate all sources of ignition.

Reference to other sections

Relevant information in other sections have to be considered. This applies in particular for information given on personal

protective equipment (section Exposure controls/personal protection) and on disposal (section Disposal considerations).

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling:

Avoid formation of aerosols. In case of aerosol formation special protective measures are required (exhausting by suction,

respiratory protection). Ensure adequate ventilation. Keep away from incompatible substances in accordance with section 10.2.

Spilled substance increases risk of slipping.

Precautions against fire and explosion:

Product can separate methanol. Flammable vapors may accumulate and form explosive mixtures with air in containers, process

vessels, including partial, empty and uncleaned containers and vessels, or other enclosed spaces. Keep away from sources of

ignition and do not smoke. Take precautionary measures against electrostatic charging. Cool endangered containers with water.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Conditions for storage rooms and vessels:

none known .

Advice for storage of incompatible materials:

none known .

Further information for storage:

Keep container tightly closed and store in a cool, well ventilated place.

Specific end use(s)

No data are available.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Exposure controls

Exposure in the work place limited and controlled

General protection and hygiene measures:

Do not eat, drink or smoke when handling. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Wash hands at the end of work and before eating.

Do not inhale gases/vapours/aerosols. Keep working clothes separately.

Personal protection equipment:

Respiratory protection

In accordance with instructions: not required . In case of long or strong exposure and when sprayed: gas mask filter ABEK .

Hand protection

Recommendation: nitrile rubber protective gloves . Protective gloves made of butyl rubber . Gloves suitable for up to 60 minutes'

use. At any sign of decay or chemical permeability remove gloves immediately and replace.

Eye protection

tight fitting protective goggles . Provide work station with eye bathing equipment.

Skin protection

protective clothing .

Exposure to the environment limited and controlled

Prevent material from entering surface waters, drains or sewers and soil.

Further information for system design and engineering measures

Observe information in section Handling and storage.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity; Chemical stability; Possibility of hazardous reactions

If stored and handled in accordance with standard industrial practices no hazardous reactions are known.

Relevant information can possibly be found in other parts of this section.

Conditions to avoid moisture .

Incompatible materials

Reacts with: water , alcohols , acids . Reaction causes the formation of: heat , methanol . Reacts slowly with: chloro hydrocarbons

or ketones/aldehydes . Reacts with: carbon dioxide (CO2) .

Hazardous decomposition products

If stored and handled properly: none known . Measurements have shown the formation of small amounts of formaldehyde at

temperatures above about 150 °C (302 °F) through oxidation.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Material Recommendation:

Dispose of according to regulations by incineration in a special waste incinerator. Small quantities may be disposed of by

incineration in an approved facility. Observe local/state/federal regulations.

Uncleaned packaging Recommendation:

Completely discharge containers (no tear drops, no powder rest, scraped carefully). Containers may be recycled or re-used.

Observe local/state/federal regulations.

13.1.3 Waste Disposal Legislation Ref.No.(EC)

It is not possible to determine a waste code for this product in accordance with the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) since it is

only possible to classify it according to how it is used by the customer. The waste code is to be determined within the EU in liaison

with the waste-disposal operator.
