Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

One study on freshwater vascular plant, Myriophyllum spicatum, concludes to a NOEC on growth (4 days exposure) = 0.02mg TRC/l. 50% growth inhibition occurs in the 0.1 - 0.4 mgTRC/L range (along to endpoint)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater plants:
0.1 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater plants:
0.02 mg/L

Additional information

As no unicellular algae standard test can be carried out for technical reason, use can be made of vascular plants. A study has been published in 1984 (not evaluated in european RAR) that assesses effects of continuous exposure of Myriophyllum spicatum, an ubiquitous freshwater plant, to dissolved chlorine. Growth parameters were evaluated for a 4 days exposure (longer exposure were not possible due to growth of epiphyton on the plants). It is then possible to use the calculated NOECs and EC50s for hazard assessment.
