Executive summary:

Based on aerobic river die-away test data. The decomposition of 0.1-25 mg acetonitrile/l, in Ohio River water (at pH 6.5-7), was 20% in 5 days and 40% in 12 days (Ludzack et al. 1958), and the half-life 1-4 weeks (Howard et al. 1991).

The estimated aerobic biodegradation half-life of acetonitrile in ground water is 2-8 weeks (Howard et al. 1991).
