Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The n-octanol/water partition coefficient is defined as the ratio of the equilibrium
concentrations of a dissolved substance in a 2-phase system consisting of the largely immiscible solvents n-octanol and water.
According to column 2 of Annex VII (standard information requirements for substances manufactured or imported in quantities of 1 tonne or more) of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 the study does not need to be conducted if the substance is inorganic.
Sulphuric acid, compound with graphite is an inorganic solid, consisting of natural graphite and variable amounts of intercalated sulphuric acid. All constituents of sulphuric acid, compound with graphite are inorganic substances. Therefore, performance of a study to determine the partition coefficient is not required under Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH).
