Description of key information

In the key study the effects of the test item Acetessig-o-toluidid TTR on the growth of the freshwater green alga Desmodesmus subspicatus were tested. No inhibiting effects on specific growth rate and yield were found in the limit concentration of 100 mg/L. The EC50-values for specific growth rate inhibition (ErC50) and inhibition of yield (EyC50) after 72 h were > 100 mg/L.
In the supporting study the 72 hr ErC50 for freshwater algae Selenastrum capricornutum = 654 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L

Additional information

The key study was conducted 2008 and reported 2009 according to the OECD Guideline for the testing of chemicals 201 and principles of GLP.

The toxicity of Acetessig-o-toluidid TTR to the unicellular freshwater green alga Desmodesmus subspicatuswas determined according to the principles of OECD 201.The aim of the study was to assess the effects on growth rate and yield over a period of 72 h.

The study was conducted under static conditions.

All effect levels are given based on nominal concentrations of the test item.

The EC50-values for specific growth rate inhibition (ErC50) and inhibition of yield (EyC50) after 72 h were > 100 mg/L.

The toxicity to aquatic algae was performed in the supporting study according to OECD Guideline 201 in year 1999. The study was published in the SIDS Dossier in year 2003 by the lead organization Mitsuboshi Chemical Co., Ltd. (AAOT Consortium), Japan.

The ErC50 for freshwater algae Selenastrum capricornutum is 654 mg/L after 72 hr exposure to the test item.
