Additional information

The substance in question is an inorganic fibrous solid with composition in the mullite- alumina series. Each fibre consists of multiple crystallites with several amorphous phases. They should be compared with minerals rather than traditional chemical substances and are best described as UVCBs. They melt at very high temperatures circa 2000 degrees centigrade. Chemically they are inert and insoluble, though small amounts of silica or alumina may leach from the fibres, probably the surface only.
