Description of key information

In both acute and long term toxicity studies, invertebrates appeared to be the most sensitive species: for the acute toxicity, the EC50 is determined to be 0.92 mg/L (acute test with daphnia on 4,4'-oxydianiline) and for the chronic toxicity, the NOEC = 0.018 mg/L (chronic toxicity test with ceriodaphnia and 3,4'-oxydianiline).

The 4,4'-oxydianiline is therefore considered as very toxic to aquatic invertebrates.

For the other aquatic species (algae and fish), the range for acute toxicity is between 10 and 100 mg/L (same sensitivity for fish and algae).

The range for chronic toxicity is between 1 and 10 mg/L with again same sensitivity for both species.
