Additional information

Dichloroacetyl chloride is not a mutagenic in these bacterial test systems either with or without exogenous metabolic activation at the dose level investigated.

The substance contains the following impurity which is classified as follows according to Directive 67/548/EC:

- 0.9 % 1,1,2-trichloroethene (CAS 79 -01 -6): Muta Cat. 3, R68

Since the substance Dichloroacetyl chloride contains an impurity classified as Muta. Cat. 3, R68 in a concentration below 1%, the substance is not classified as Muta. Cat. 3, R68.

According to the CLP Regulation, the impurity mentioned above is classified as follows:

- 0.9 % 1,1,2-trichloroethene (CAS 79 -01 -6): Muta Cat. 2

Since the substance Dichloroacetyl chloride contains an impurity classified as Muta Cat.a concentration below 1%, the substance is not classified as Muta Cat 2.

Short description of key information:
Dichloroacetyl chloride genetic toxicity was tested (Ames test) for mutagenicity with Salmonella typhimurum strains TA 98, TA 100, TA 1535, TA 1537, TA 1538 and E coli WP2uvrA in the absence and presence of a metabolic activation system.
Dichloroacetyl chloride is not a mutagenic in these bacterial test systems either with or without exogenous metabolic activation at the dose level investigated.

Endpoint Conclusion: No adverse effect observed (negative)

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the Directive 67/548/EC, since the substance Dichloroacetyl chloride contains an impurity classified as Muta. Cat. 3, R68 in a concentration below 1%, the substance is not classified as Muta. Cat. 3, R68.

According to the CLP Regulation, since the substance Dichloroacetyl chloride contains an impurity classified as Muta Cat.a concentration below 1%, the substance is not classified as Muta Cat 2.
