Additional information

Toxicity to birds is not a standard information requirement in Annex VIII of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. Furthermore bioaccumulation of the ‘EDTA metal complexes with cobalt, copper, iron, manganese and zinc’ is unlikely, due to the ionic structure. Therefore secondary poisoning is of no concern for the described UVCB.

Nevertheless, for EDTA iron complexes (FeEDTANa, CAS 15708-41-5) two short term toxicity studies with birds are available [LPT Laboratory, on behalf of Neudorff GmbH, 2008]. One study conducted according to the Guideline OPPTS 850.2100 and resulted in a LD50 of > 5000 mg/kg b.w. The other study followed the OECD guideline 205 and was designed as limit test with 5000 ppm FeNaEDTA. In this test no toxic signs and no test item-related changes were noted.
