Additional information

A non-GLP study on the toxicity to algae is available. The study was conducted according to the German Industrial Standard guideline DIN 38412, part 9 using Desmodesmus subspicatus as test species. Based on the growth rate, the ErC50 (72h) was determined to be 23880 mg/L, the 72h ErC10 was 17040 mg/L (BASF, 1990; report no. 01/90/143). The test item concentrations were not analytically verified but are assumed to be stable regarding the substance's properties: low volatility, high water solubility, not significantly bioaccumulative, adsorption not expected. The study meets the validity criteria of the guideline with exception of the mean coefficient of variation for section-by-section specific growth rates.

Therefore, results of the key study were supported with a calculation performed with QSAR Toolbox v4.4. The 72-h EC50 was determined to be 545 mg/L (BASF SE, 2021). Results were calculated with the read-across analysis method and the substance was within the applicability domain of the calculation model.

It can be concluded that 4-morpholinecarbaldehyde is with high probability acutely and chronically not harmful to algae.
