Description of key information

Eicosanoic acid was considered non-flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

From the experimental value of flammability, Eicosanoic acid ignited when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of 950 degC was brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that Eicosanoic acid is flammable only at high temperature of about 950 deg C. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, Eicosanoic acid was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The target substance, Eicosanoic acid, will not be exibit flammable property as the substance does not catch fire at normal room temperature. Also auto-flammablity is not applicable. Moreover the flash point as mentioend in the dossier also support the conclusion that the acid will not have flammable properties.
