Conclusion on classification

Based on the lowest acute toxicity result, aquatic toxicity to algae (2 mg/L), chromium trichloride is not classified for acute aquatic toxicity according to CLP (Regulation EC No 1272/2008). However, considering the NOEC for chronic toxicity towards fish of 0.246 mg/L chromium trichloride hexahydrate is classified as chronic aquatic toxic, category 2 according to CLP (H411, Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects), as biodegradation for inorganic substance is not possible. Accordingly, chromium trichloride hexahydrate is classified as N, R51/53 (Toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment) according to DSD (Directive 67/548/EEC).
