First-aid measures
Emergency measure - Inhalation: In case of excessive inhalation remove the person to the
fresh air. Clean nose and mouth and keep at rest in a
comfortable position. Obtain medical advice immediately.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Immediately rinse eyes with plenty of water. If any sign of
tissue damage or persistent irritation is apparent, obtain
medical advice immediately.
Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash off skin with plenty of
water using soap if available. If any sign of irritation is
apparent, obtain medical advice immediately.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Obtain medical advice immediately.
Fire-fighting measures
Recommended extinguishing agent: Foam, dry chemical.

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Remove all sources of ignition. Provide proper ventilation.
Collect the material using a porous inert material and
transfer to a suitable container.
Either dispose of in accordance with local regulations or
recover the material by recrystallisation.
Handling and storage
Handling: Avoid skin and eye contact, wear suitable gloves and
glasses. Do not eat, drink or smoke when handling the
material. Avoid sources of ignition.
Storage: Store indoors at constant temperature, if possible at around
15 C in dry, well ventilated conditions in sealed
containers. Keep away from sources of ignition.
Packaging of the substance and or preparation: 250 kg lacquer lined drums or 1 tonne capacity stainless
steel containers.

Disposal considerations
Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Rossitol is an aromachemical and will be blended with a
number of other materials to produce a wide range of
fragrances. Once blended it will be impossible to recover
Rossitol from the mixture.
Spillages of pure Rossitol could be recovered by
distillation once suitable recovery techniques had been
identified.
Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Rossitol is classed as a skin and eye irritant, and thus
suitable gloves and protective clothing should be worn when
handling this material. Washing with soap and water should
help to neutralise any effects from accidental skin contact,
and irrigation with large volumes of water should similarly
neutralise the effects of accidental contact with the eyes.
Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: As Rossitol is classified as being toxic to aquatic
organisms, it should not be flushed to the drains.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Rossitol should be disposed of by incineration. No special
techniques are required, since no hazardous combustion
products are expected.
Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Once Rossitol has been incorporated into fragrances used in
consumer products, there is little possibility of recovery.
Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: Since Rossitol will be used in consumer products intended
for use by the general public, it should be utilised in such
a way as to eliminate its potential to cause irritation to
the skin and eyes.
Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Consumer products should only contain low levels of
Rossitol, and should thus be suitable for disposal to land
fill.
Public at large - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Depending on the nature of the consumer product,
incineration is the recommended method of disposal for
Rossitol.
