Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Testing of butylbenzene components for biodegradability in water and sediments is complicated because of high volatility.

The environmental fate of butylbenzene components in water and sediment will be determined by biotic and abiotic degradation.

QSARs estimated half-lives for biodegradation of butylbenzene components in water and sediment based upon BIOWIN Ultimate Biodegradation are 360 to 900 hours (15 to 37.5 days) and 3240 to 8100 hours (135 to 337.5 days), respectively. Whereas the half-lives of butylbenzene components for volatilization from water are estimated as 1.2 days (for a river) to 4.6 days (for a lake) using EPI Suite software.

The QSAR models predicts timeframe within days-weeks for primary biodegradation of most butylbenzene components and weeks for their ultimate degradation.

Overall ready biodegradability prediction provided by a number of BIOWIN (v.4.10) models suggests that butylbenzene components are not ready biodegradable in the environment.
