Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

One study investigating the toxicity offatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsaturated, esters with pentaerythritol (CAS 85711-45-1)is available. The data were based on the inhibition control of a ready biodegradability study (Muckle, 2013). In thisstudy according to OECD 301B and EU Method C.4-C a 14 d-NOEC of 26.7 mg/L could be determined, based on the toxicity control. . One Study investigating the biodegradation offatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsaturated, esters with pentaerythritol (CAS 85711-45-1), was tested in an in a CO2 Evolution Test according to OECD guideline 301B using domestic activated sludge as inoculum. This test also consisted of a Toxicity control. The toxicity control was tested at a test concentration of 26.7 mg/L. The toxicity control attained 61% degradation after 14 days of incubation (68.7% after 29 days). In accordance with the OECD Guideline 301 if in a toxicity test, containing both the test substance and a reference compound, more than 25% degradation (based on total ThOD or ThCO2) occurred within 14 days, the test substance can be assumed to be non inhibitory to microbial organisms.

It can therefore be concluded thatfatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsaturated, esters with pentaerythritol (CAS 85711-45-1)will not exhibit inhibitory effects to aquatic microorganisms. The test item concentration in the toxicity control of 26.7 mg/L can be used as NOEC value for the toxicity to aquatic microorganisms.

As it can be seen in the data matrix of the category justification in section 13 and the overall endpoint summary IUCLID 6.1, all reliable data in the category support the hazard assessment of each category member by showing a consistent pattern of results, i.e. no microbial inhibition and no toxic effects were observed to aquatic organisms up to the limit of water solubility.
