In the preliminary test, the pH of the test medium at 100 mg/L was above the maximum (pH 9) recommended for this type of test. Therefore in the definitive test, the media at 20.7, 45.5 100 mg/L were prepared with pH adjustment (range 6 – 9) and without pH adjustment.

- The 48-hour EC50 of APD for the immobilisation of Daphnia magna was 52.5 mg/L when performed without pH adjustment and > 100 mg/L following pH adjustment of the media.
The ‘no-observed effect concentration’ (NOEC) was 20.7 mg/L without pH adjustment and 45.5 with pH adjustment.
These results suggested that the pH of the medium was primarily responsible for the immobilisation observed.
