Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Interpretation of results:
non explosive
Conclusions:
No mechanical sensitivity (shock test) was observed with the test item during the six assays. No heat sensitivity (flame test) was observed with the test item during the six assays.
The test item is not considered to have explosive properties in the experimental conditions applied.
Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties

Description of key information

In accordance with REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex VII, column 2 section 7.11 the study does not need to be conducted based on structural assessment of the substance. The substance constituents do not contain groups associated with explosive properties. Furthermore, handling and use confirm that the substance does not have explosive properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

The registered substance is placed on the market as an aqueous solution. A study to determine the explosive properties of Sophorolipids (aqueous solution) is available (Processium 2012, performed according to the Regulation (EC) n°440/2008, A.14: “EXPLOSIVE PROPERTIES”, May 2008.). Preliminary tests, called Safety-in-handling tests, are necessary to establish safety conditions for the performance of the assays of sensitivity for the main tests. They consist of exposure of a very small

sample (about 10 mg) of the test item, to impact (shock) in suitable apparatus, and to unconfined heating directly with the flame of a gas burner. Main tests (mechanical sensitivity and heat sensitivity) are then performed with samples of 10 cm3.

No signs of explosion were recorded in the “safety-in-handling tests”. No mechanical sensitivity (shock test) was observed with the test item during the six assays. No heat sensitivity (flame test) was observed with the test item during the six assays. The test item is not considered to have explosive properties in the experimental conditions applied.
