Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Short-term toxicity to fish
Administrative data
- Endpoint:
- short-term toxicity to fish
- Type of information:
- (Q)SAR
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Reliability:
- 2 (reliable with restrictions)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- results derived from a valid (Q)SAR model and falling into its applicability domain, with limited documentation / justification
- Justification for type of information:
- The water solubility is < 0.01mg/l and in common with higher olefins, it is not considered possible to dissolve a meaningful level of the substance in water for ecotoxicity testing.
Models such as ECOSAR are widely used to predict toxicity to aquatic organisms
In view of final use in cosmetics, animal testing needs to be avoided.

- Conc. based on:
- other: WAF
- Remarks on result:
- not determinable
- Details on results:
- In common with the class of higher olefins, there is no toxicity within the limits of solublity
WAF estimates suggest no toxicity at over 100 mg/l loading.
Any other information on results incl. tables
- Sublethal observations / clinical signs:
The results found for this substance using EPISuite are consistent with expectations. For completeness, both the C17 linear and C22 branched components were assessed, but as these effectively gave the same results, only the results for C17 linear are reproduced below. Both components have estimated water solubility below 0.01mg/l, but the C17 linear was marginally higher and is considered most appropriate for modelling
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Validity criteria fulfilled:
- yes
- Conclusions:
- In common with the class of higher olefins, there is no toxicity within the limits of solublity
WAF estimates suggest no toxicity at over 100 mg/l loading.
