Fatty acids, tall-oil, esters with ethylene glycol (CAS 68187-85-9) is assumed to bear a low water solubility and is furthermore characterized by a very low vapor pressure (<0.0001 Pa at 25 °C) and a high adsorption potential (log Koc > 8).

Based on the result from a standard biodegradation study the target substance is readily biodegradable (63% after 28 d, OECD 301F). Thus, it is expected that an extensive elimination of the substance in sewage treatment plants will occur. As a result of the high adsorption potential of the substance (log Koc > 8, KOCWIN v2.00) a removal from the water column to a significant degree by adsorption to sewage sludge can be expected (Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7b, (ECHA, 2017)).

Based on these physicochemical properties the substance is expected to mainly retain in the soil and sediment compartment. Due to rapid biodegradation of the substance, primary degradation via hydrolysis is not considered as a main degradation process. Moreover, the substance is not volatile (vapour pressure <0.0001 Pa at 25 °C) and thus evaporation to the air and subsequent transport through the atmosphere to other environmental compartments is not likely.
