- With this method the difference in energy input into the test item and a reference material as a function of temperature is recorded, while the substance and reference material are subjected to the same temperature program. This energy is the energy necessary to establish zero temperature difference between the test item and the reference material. When the sample undergoes a transition involving a change of enthalpy, that change is indicated by an endothermic departure (e.g. melting, boiling) from the base line of the heat flow record. As result, one gets a thermogram in which the transition heat flux is exhibited as a function of the temperature. In this diagram, the onset of the reaction (e.g. decomposition, physical process) as well of the heat-flux of the reaction is shown.

Based on CLP criteria, the decomposition energy is above the threshold of -500 J/g. A detonation hazard can be excluded, since the decomposition energy is below the limit of - 800 J/g. Explosion hazards cannot be excluded on the basis of the present results.
