Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Biodegradation in soil
Administrative data
- Endpoint:
- biodegradation in soil: simulation testing
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because direct and indirect exposure of soil is unlikely
- Justification for type of information:
- Not applicable for inorganic salts. Simple inorganic salts with high aqueous solubility will exist in a dissociated form in solution and, thus, will not bioaccumulate.
The fate of chromium n soil is greatly dependent upon the speciation of chromium, which is a function of redox potential and the pH of the soil. In most soils, chromium will be present predominantly in the chromium (III) state. This form has very low solubility and low reactivity resulting in low mobility in the environment and low toxicity in living organisms.
The oxidation of chromium (III) to chromium (VI) was not observed in soil andur conditions of maximum aeration and a maximum pH of 7.3.
