Description of key information

For barium 4-dodecylphenolate, aquatic toxicity studies are not vailable. Read-across to the assessment entities soluble barium substances and dodecylphenolate is applied for the assessment of barium 4-dodecylphenolate since the ions of barium 4-dodecylphenolate determine its fate and toxicity in the environment. Reliable data available for soluble barium substances and dodecylphenolate indicate that the moiety of ecotoloxicological concern are dodecylphenolate anions. Based on dissolved barium concentrations in solution, the ErC50and NOEC are >1.15 and >=1.15 mg Ba/L, respectively. According to the QSAR-based outcome of the model ECOSAR v.2.0, dodecylphenolate has a potential for toxicity to algae since the chronic value (ChV = 10^([log (LOEC x NOEC)]/2)) is estimated with 0.023 mg/L.

Thus, barium 4 -dodecylphenolate is expected to have a potential for toxicity to algae.
