Administrative data
- Endpoint:
- toxicity to microorganisms
- Type of information:
- migrated information: read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- 1992-12-09 - 1992-12-10
- Reliability:
- 2 (reliable with restrictions)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- other: see 'Remark'
- Remarks:
- Study was conducted according to national guideline in Germany. No detailed information about GLP compliance available. This result is read-across from ‘1,3,4-Thiadiazolidine-2,5-dithione, reaction products with hydrogen peroxide and tert-dodecanethiol’. Read-across is justified as the two substances ‘1,3,4-Thiadiazolidine-2,5-dithione, reaction products with hydrogen peroxide and tert-dodecanethiol’ and ‘1,3,4-Thiadiazolidine-2,5-dithione, reaction products with hydrogen peroxide and tert-nonanethiol’ are virtually the same: the only difference between those two UVCB substances is that one of the used raw materials (alkanethiol) has a diversity in the C-range, i.e. on the one hand a tert. C12-alkanethiol is used in the manufacturing process, on the other hand a tert. C9. Hence, based on the (structural) similarity of both substances it is safe to say that the physicochemical, toxicological and ecotoxicological properties are likely to be similar.

TEST MEDIUM
An aqueous extract is prepared according to DEV S 4 using 100 mg test substance. This amount is mixed with 1 L deionized water and shaked overhead for 24 h. Filtration is done with the help of a rough fluted filter and the filtrate is used for testing.
In the second preparation, an eluate with 10 g/L test substance is used. - Reference substance (positive control):

Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Validity criteria fulfilled:
- yes
- Remarks:
- Basic scientific criteria were met.
- Conclusions:
- The report describes a valid guideline study conducted according to a German national standard procedure (DIN 38 412) under GLP compliance. Basic information available. The test substance is not toxic to Pseudomonas putida (EC10 and EC50 will be equal or greater than 8 g/L).
- Executive summary:
The toxic effect on growth of Pseudomonas putida of 1,3,4-Thiadiazolidine-2,5-dithione, reaction products with hydrogen peroxide and tert-dodecanethiol (No CAS, no EC) was investigated according to DIN 38 412 by Hansonis-Jouleh (1993). The test temperature was 21 °C and the test duration 16 h. Test concentrations were used as 80 mg/L and 8000 mg/L (equal to 8 g/L). Cultivation of the pre-culture is done 7 h before inoculation at 21 °C. The test is conducted in Erlenmeyer flasks on a shaker with incubation hood. Up to the maximal water solubility, the test substance is not toxic to Pseudomonas putida and possesses no toxic, water soluble ingredient or impurity. Therefore, the EC10(16h) was determined to be >= 8 g/L. The same applies for the EC50(16h) value.
