Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Several studies on the biodegradability in water are available on the category of Stilbene Fluorescent Whitening Agents and none of the substances isneither readily nor inherently biodegradable in the available studies.

A ready biodegradability, Closed Bottle Test is available. The oxygen consumption at 28 days was of 2 %; nevertheless the original report is missed and many details on test procedures and test results are not available (Bayer AG, 1988).

A further test less reliable on the BOD5:COD ratio was calculated using the values determined according to the specific methods (Ciba-Geigy Ltd., 1992).

The estimation performed using the BIOWIN models*, in order to predicting the ready biodegradability of the chemical to be registered, confirmed that the substance is expected to be as not ready biodegradable.

*Biowin v.4.10 is an application contained in the EpiSuite 4.1, the suite of physical/chemical property and environmental fate estimation programs developed by the EPA’s Office of Pollution Prevention Toxics and Syracuse Research Corporation (SRC).
