Description of key information

The substance cyclododecanol tel quel represents a reaction mass consisting of cyclododecanol and cyclododecanone. No studies regarding skin irritation/corrosion or eye irritation were made with the reaction mass. However studies with the components cyclododecanol and cyclododecanone were performed. These studies were used in a read across approach. Based on the studies it is concluded that the reaction mass cyclododecanol tel quel consisting of cyclododecanol and cyclododecanone is considered to show at the most very slight irritation effects on skin, eye and mucosa which do not lead to classification and labelling according to the criteria of EC Directive 67/548/EEC and EC Regulation 1272/2008.

Additional information

The substance cyclododecanol tel quel represents a reaction mass consisting of cyclododecanol and cyclododecanone. No studies regarding skin irritation/corrosion or eye irritation were made with the reaction mass. However studies with the components cyclododecanol and cyclododecanone were performed. These studies were used in a read across approach.

Skin irritation/Corrosion:

Cyclododecanol showed no skin irritating effects in a study conducted with rabbits. Cyclododecanone showed very slight skin irritating effects in a study conducted with rabbits. These very slight skin irritation effects are not relevant for classification and labelling according to the criteria of EC Directive 67/548/EEC and EC Regulation 1272/2008.

Hence it is concluded that the reaction mass cyclododecanol tel quel consisting of cyclododecanol and cyclododecanone is considered to show at the most very slight irritation effects on the skin which do not lead to classification and labelling according to the criteria of EC Directive 67/548/EEC and EC Regulation 1272/2008. Eye irritation:

Cyclododecanol and cyclododecanone showed only very slight irritating effects on eye and mucosa in studies with rabbits. These very slight irritation effects on eye and mucosa are not relevant for classification and labelling accordingto the criteria of EC Directive 67/548/EEC and EC Regulation 1272/2008.

Hence it is concluded that the reaction mass cyclododecanol tel quel consisting of cyclododecanol and cyclododecanone is considered to show at the most very slight irritation effects on the eye and mucosa which do not lead to classification and labelling according to the criteria of EC Directive 67/548/EEC and EC Regulation 1272/2008.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the criteria of EC Directive 67/548/EEC and EC Regulation 1272/2008 and based on the results of the studies the substance cyclododecanol tel quel is not classified regarding this endpoint.
