- Conclusions:
- The Kow of Bis(2-chloroethyl) ether is reported to be 29.
- Executive summary:
A Kow value equal to 29 is reported for Bis(2-chloroethyl) ether in this collection of data published by US EPA. U.S. EPA reports are subjected to a formal review process. It is thus assumed that a variety of data sources have been consulted, that the test methodology and identity of the test substance has been evaluated, and that a reliable and representative value for the endpoint has been selected. Accordingly, this data was assigned a reliability score of 2.

Additional information
In Veith et al. (in: Aquatic Toxicology, ASTM STP 707, 1980, pp. 116 -129.), the results of a detailed study using a methodology similar to OECD Guideline No. 107 (shake-flask method) are reported. In the conditions of the test, the Log Pow of Bis(2-chloroethyl) ether was found to be equal to 1.12. The data originate from a peer-reviewed publication and is deemed reliable (reliability score of 2).
In a review on partition coeffcients and their uses published by Leo et al. (Chem. Rev., 1971, 71(6):525-616), experimental data on the partition coefficient of Bis(2-chloroethyl) ether are reported. The data was generated based on a shake-flask method, but no extra methodological details are provided. The Log Pow of Bis(2-chloroethyl) ether was determined to be 1.58.
In the databook entitled "Aquatic Fate Porcess Data for Organic Priority Pollutants" published by U.S. EPA (Mabey et al., 1982), a Kow value equal to 29 is reported for Bis(2-chloroethyl) ether.
