Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

A GLP-guideline study on 3,7,11-trimethyldodecyn-3-ol to investigate the toxicity on aquatic invertebrates were conducted on Daphnia magna in a static 48 h OECD 202 study (BASF SE 2016, 50E0025/05X055). Based on the geometric mean measured concentrations of the test item 3,7,11-trimethyldodecyn-3-ol, the 48 hour-EC50 forDaphnia magnawas 0.233 mg/L (95 % confidence limits: 0.210 – 0.266 mg/L).

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

A GLP study according to OECD 201 (BASF 2016; 60E0025/05X056) was conducted with 3,7,11-trimethyldodecyn-3-ol. The test substance was found to inhibit the growth of the freshwater green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata over the period of 72 hours. The EC50-value for inhibition of specific growth rate (ErC50) after 72 hours was 0.314 mg test item/L, the EC20- and EC10-values were determined to be 0.184 and 0.141 mg test item/L (geometric mean measured concentrations of the test item).

Toxicity to microorganisms

A GLP-guideline study (BASF 2005, OECD 209) on activated sludge respiration inhibition conducted on 3,7,11 -trimethyldodecyn-3-ol reveals an EC50 above 1000 mg/L.
