Short term aquatic toxicity

Fish

Key Study:

In an OECD 203 study, according to GLP, the 96 hour toxicity (LC50) of 5,5’-Dithiodi-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2(3H) -thione to fish (Pimephales promelas), based on the mean measured test concentration, is greater than 454 mg/L, which was the limit of functional solubility of the test item in this study (Envigo Research Limited, 2016). Therefore, 5,5’-Dithiodi-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2(3H) –thione is not acutely harmful to fish up to the limit of functional solubility in the test system.

Invertebrates

Key Study:

In an OECD 202 study, conducted according to GLP, the 48 hour toxicity (EC50) of 5,5'-Dithiodi-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2(3H)-thione to aquatic invertebrates (Daphnia magna) is 3.0 mg/L, based on the mean measured test concentration (Envigo Research Limited, Ltd, 2016).

Algae

Key Study:

In an OECD 201 study, conducted according to GLP, the 72 hour EC50 to freshwater algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata)of 5,5'-Dithiodi-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2(3H)-thione is 20 mg/L (growth rate inhibition). The corresponding 72 hour EC10 for growth rate inhibition is 9.4 mg/L (Envigo Research Limited, 2016).

Micro-organisms

Key Study:

In an OECD 209 study, conducted according to GLP, the 3 hour respiration inhibition EC10 to activated sewage sludge micro-organism of 5,5'-Dithiodi-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2(3H)-thione is 3.1 mg/L, and the NOEC is 1.0 mg/L (Envigo Research Limited, 2016).
