Additional information
The biodegradation potential of the substance in water was determined in a screening study according to OECD TG 301C (Modified MITI Test) and in compliance with GLP criteria. In this study 30 mg test substance per 300 mL water was inoculated with activated sludge (adaptation not specified) for 28 days under aerobic conditions. At the end of incubation the biodegradation was estimated by analysis of O2 consumption, DOC removal and the residual amount of test substance and comparison with a blank control (water + test substance). In addition, the amount of the transformation product IBTAL-carboxylic acid was measured.
After the 28 -day incubation period the degradability based on BOD was 0%. Based hereon, it can be concluded that the test substance is not readily biodegradable under the conditions of the test. The degradability based on DOC was not calculated since the test substance was hardly soluble in water and the DOC in the test substance solution was less than 90% of the theoretical value. Based on residual amounts of test substance a >99% loss of test substance was determined. As in the blank control already 37% loss of test substance was noted, the disappearance rate was calculated instead of degradability. A part of the test substance was considered to have disappeared by volatilization. Based on formation of the transformation product IBTAL-carboxylic acid the transformation rates were 96-99% in test solutions and 5% in the blank control.
Based on these findings it is concluded that the test substance is not readily biodegradable and that the transformation product IBTAL-carboxylic acid is generated under the conditions of this test.
