Executive summary:

A study was performed with FAT 41001/F to determine the toxicity to microorganisms. This test was carried out in accordance to OECD test guideline 209 and CIBA internal method B-21.

The concentration of test substance used: 1, 3.2, 10, 32, 100, 320 mg/L. 3,5 - Dichlorophenol was used as reference substance.

Based on the findings of the study, the 3h IC50 for FAT 21030/A was found to be greater than 320 mg/L. The 3h IC50 of reference substance was determined to be 11 mg/L.

Description of key information

3-hour IC50 of FAT 41001 to activated sludge micro-organisms was determined to be >320 mg/L. The most recent studies to evaluate the inhibitory effect of the test item FAT 41001 on the respiration rate of aerobic wastewater micro-organisms of activated sludge in a 3-hour respiration inhibition test according to the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals, No. 209 were performed in 1992. The 3-hour IC50 of FAT 41001 to activated sludge micro-organisms was determined to be >320 mg/L. Several other studies performed between 1982 to 1984 reported 24-hour IC50 to be >300 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
320 mg/L
