Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The key study relates to an OECD Guideline study with the test substance sodium cumenesulphonate and reported a 3hr EC10 of >=1000 mg/L (Fiebig, 2009).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

The key study is a respiration inhibition test carried out using activated sludge and the test substance sodium cumenesulphonate in accordance with OECD Guideline No. 209. The test was performed under static conditions with the limit concentration 1000 mg a.i./L, corresponding to 2500 mg test item/L. The respiration rates of the control, reference and test substance replicates were measured after a contact time of three hours and the inhibitory effects of the test and reference item were determined in comparison to the control respiration rates. No inhibition was observed for the test substance corresponding to an EC10 of >= 1000 mg a.i./L.

The supporting study (Fiebig, 2009) was undertaken at the same time by the same laboratory using the same protocol, but using the test substance sodium toluenesulphonate. The 3-hour EC10 (and NOEC) was >=1000 mg/L active substance (nominal); the only concentration tested.
