Description of key information
Short term toxicity tests are available for all the three tropic levels (fish, invertebrates and aquatic plants).
Additional information
A study was performed to determine the acute fish toxicity to FAT 40554 to Rainbow trout according to the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals (1984) no. 203 "Fish Acute Toxicity Test" referenced as Method C.1 of Commission Directive 84/449/EEC (which constitutes Annex V of Council Directive 67/548/EEC). Fish were tested at these different follwing concentrations: 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 mg/l.
0.50 mg/l was the highest test concentration that could be achieved due to the limited solubility of the test material in water and auxiliary solvent and having due regard to the amount of auxiliary solvent permitted in the test under the OECD Guidelines.
The LC50 of FAT 40554 in this fish acute toxicity test was determined to be greater than 0.50 mg/l after 96 hours exposure time.
In a key study, FAT 40554 was tested for its acute toxicity to Daphnia magna in a 48 hours static test according to the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals, Section 2, No. 202, adopted 4th April 1984, (issued 1993) and EU-Guideline 92/69, EEC Nr. L 383 A, C. 2, (29th Dec. 1992). The nominal concentrations tested were0.010, 0.10, 0.50 and 1.0 mg/l test article, a vehicle and a blank control without any additions.
No immobilization and abnormal behaviour of the Daphnia was observed in the controls. The NOEC and EC0 value after 48 hours were determined to be 39 mg/l, the EC100 value are > 203 mg/l. The EC50 (48 hrs) value was found to be greater than 0.50 mg/l .

According to Directive 93/21/EEC (adaptation to Directive 67/548/EEC) the ecotoxicological classification of FAT 40554 is not toxic to Daphnia magna after 48 hours.
A key study was performed to assess the effect of the test item on the growth of the green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata. The method followed that described in the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals (2006) No 201, "Freshwater Alga and Cyanobacteria, Growth Inhibition Test" referenced as Method C.3 of Commission Regulation (EC) No 761/2009. Exposure of Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata to the test item gave the following results based on the nominal test concentrations:
EC50 (% v/v Saturated Solution) : >100 (Growth Rate)
EC50 (% v/v Saturated Solution) : 86 (Yield)
No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) (% v/v Saturated Solution) : 50 (Growth Rate, Yield)
Lowest Observed Effect Concentration (LOEC) (% v/v Saturated Solution) : 100 (Growth Rate, Yield)

EbC50 (72h) value : >0.25mg/l (Growth Rate)
ErC50 (24-48h) value : >0.25mg/l (Yield)
No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) (% v/v Saturated Solution) : >=0.50mg/l (Growth Rate, Yield).
Based on the above studies the LC50/EC50 can be considered as greater than 100 mg/l, hence non-classified.
