Additional information

Only one in-vitro study is available concerning genetic toxicity.

BASF (1989) reported an Ames test according to OECD guideline 471. Several Salmonella typhimurium strains were used. The test concentrations were 20, 100, 500, 2500 and 5000 ug/plate. Under these test conditions, pentacarbonyliron was not mutagenic with and without metabolic activation.

Further testing concerning genotoxicity is not meaningful. Due to the high toxicity of pentacarbonyliron, the exposure has to be minimized as low as possible.
