Description of key information

The 96 h LL50 for Patchouli ext. based on nominal loading rates was 5.7 mg/L. This value can be used directly for classification but is unsuitable for derivation of PNEC since partitioning of components in the environment will make the comparison with PEC meaningless. The 96-Hour LC50 based on the alcohol component of the test item was calculated to be 1.0 mg/L and has been used to derive PNECaquatic for the "sesquiterpene alcohol" block of components.

Additional information

Due to the low aqueous solubility and complex nature of the test item for the purposes of the test, the test item was prepared as a Water Accommodated Fraction (WAF).

Following preliminary range-finding tests, fish were exposed in groups of seven to Water Accommodated Fractions (WAFs) of the test item over a range of nominal loading rates of 1.0, 3.2, 10, 32 and 100 mg/L for 96 h. The 96 h LL50 based on nominal loading rates was 5.7 mg/L loading rate WAF with 95% confidence limits of 3.2 - 10 mg/L loading rate WAF. The Lowest Observed Effect Loading rate was considered to be 10 mg/L loading rate WAF. The No Observed Effect Loading rate was 3.2 mg/L loading rate WAF. For environmental risk assessment purposes and derivation of PNECaquatic, the results were also calculated based on the alcohol component of the test item. Based on mean measured concentrations which were calculated to be 0.62, 1.74, 4.58 and 6.25 mg/L, the 96 -Hour LC50 based on the alcohol component was calculated to be 1.0 mg/L.
