Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: GLP Guideline study
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
other: Method N.4 of United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, 5th revised edition 2009
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Testing was conducted using a procedure designed to be compatible with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of 16 December 2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures and Method N.4 of United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, Fifth revised edition, 2009.
GLP compliance:
yes
Remarks on result:
other: Not self-heating. Negative result in a test according UN RTDG Test N.4 using a 100 mm sample cube at 140 °C for 24 h: The sample showed no signs of self-ignition or self heating over the duration of the test.
Remarks on result:
other: Not self-heating. Negative result in a test according UN RTDG Test N.4 using a 100 mm sample cube at 140 °C for 24 h: The sample showed no signs of self-ignition or self heating over the duration of the test.

Results

With the oven set at 140 °C the test item temperature reached approximately 136 °C. The oven temperature was increased to 145 °C and the test item temperature reached 140 ± 2 °C as specified in the method. There were no signs of self ignition or self heating thoughout the test period.

Conclusion

The test item is not classified as a self-heating substance.

Description of key information

not self-heating

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Glycine (CAS 56-40-6) is not classified as self-heating on the basis of a GLP study similar to UN RTDG Test N.4. In this study a negative result was obtained using a 100 mm sample cube at 140 °C for 24 h.
