First-aid measures

General advice:
Take off immediately all contaminated clothing (including shoes).

Inhalation:
Move to fresh air. Oxygen or artificial respiration if needed. Keep under medical surveillance. In case of problems : Hospitalise.

Skin contact:
Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water. If skin irritation persists, call a physician.

Eye contact:
Wash well-open eyes immediately, abundantly and thoroughly with water. If irritation persists, consult an ophthalmologist.

Ingestion:
Do NOT induce vomiting. In case of problems : Consult a doctor.

Protection of first-aiders:
In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media:
Suitable extinguishing media: Water spray, Foam, Dry powder, Carbon dioxide (CO2)
Unsuitable extinguishing media: High volume water jet

Flammable liquid., Possible re-ignition of vapours from a distance Vapours may form explosive mixture with air.

Cool containers / tanks with water spray.

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:
Evacuate non-essential staff and those not equipped with individual protection apparatus. Prohibit all sources of sparks and ignition - Do not smoke. Avoid contact with skin and eyes and inhalation of vapours. Use personal protective equipment. In case of leak, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus.

Environmental precautions:
Do not release into the environment. Do not let product enter drains. Dam up with sand or inert earth (do not use combustible materials).

Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up:
Recovery: Pump into a labelled inert emergency tank. Absorb the remainder with an inert absorbent material. After cleaning, flush away traces with water. Recover waste water for processing later.
Elimination: Destroy the product by incineration (in accordance with local and national regulations).

Handling and storage

Keep well away from naked flames. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Prohibit all sources of sparks and ignition - Do not smoke. Do not use air for transfers. Do not use air to dry the equipment. Only use safety equipment.

Hygiene measures:
Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes. Avoid exposure to vapor. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.
Wash hands after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:
Keep containers tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Keep away from heat and sources of ignition. Do not smoke. Provide a catch-tank in a bunded area. Provide electrical earthing of equipment and electrical equipment usable in explosive atmospheres.

Hand protection:

For prolonged contact, the following materials are recommended for protective gloves:

- For greater than 8-hours resistance to MIBK:
PE/EVAL/PE (multi-layer)
PE/PA/PE (multi-layer)
(PE=Polyethylene; EVAL=Ethylene-vinyl-alcohol-copolymer; PA: Polyamide)

- For greater than 4-hours resistance to MIBK:
Butyl Rubber

For intermittent contact, the resistance to MIBK is lower than 1 hour with the following materials for protective gloves (with thickness above 0.3 mm):

Polyvinylchloride - PVC
Nitrile Rubber
Neoprene Rubber

So they are not recommended for activities above 1 hour.

The times listed are suggested by measurements taken at room temperature. Temperatures raised by warmed substances, body heat, etc. and a weakening of the effective layer thickness caused by expansion can lead to a significantly shorter breakthrough time. In case of doubt contact the gloves' manufacturer. A 1.5-times increase / decrease in the layer thickness doubles / halves the breakthrough time. This data only applies to the pure substance. Transferred to mixtures of substances, these figures should only be taken as an aid to orientation.
