Additional information
The test substance has shown to be harmful to algae, daphnids and microorganisms, while no toxic effects of the test substance were recorded for fish.
The key study for fish reported an LC50(96h)>100 mg/L, with a supporting study at 346 mg/L. Effects on algae were reported from EC50(72h) values >75.7 mg/L, effects on microorganisms (Pseudomonas putida, 16.7h) were reported at 38.85 mg/L. The most sensitive organisms were daphnids with effects on immobilisation (EC50(48h)) at 24.3 mg/L. The only NOEC was reported within the algae study with a 72-h value of 9.4 mg/L, an EC10(16.7h) for Pseudomonas putida was reported at 21.75 mg/L.
Aquatic PNECs were derived from acute data for the most sensitive group, the daphnids, using an assessment factor of 1000 since no chronic studies on fish and invertebrates were available. Similarly, the PNEC marine water was determined from freshwater studies.
PNEC sediment and soil had to be calculated via equilibrium partitioning method under usage of the Koc value, similarly the PNECs freshwater and marine water with a rho soil of 1150 kg/m3. A koc value of 1.076 L/kg was applied, with a resulting Ksoil-water of 0.23. A conversion factor from wet to dry weight of soils was applied (factor of 1.13).
Conclusion on classification
The data for the test substance indicate the substance to be acutely harmful to aquatic organisms (EC50=24.3 mg/L for daphnids and EC50=75.7 mg/L for algae). The NOEC(72h) for algae was 9.4 mg/L, a chronic study on the most sensitive aquatic group (aquatic invertebrates) is not available. The substance is not readily biodegradable (3 to 23% in 28 days). Hence, the substance has to be classified as R52/53 under DSD-DPD and as chronic III (H412) under GHS (CLP).
