Acute tests on all three trophic levels were performed to examine the aquatic toxicity of 2,6-Xylidine. Aquatic invertebrate Daphnia magna turned out to be the most sensitive species revealing an EC50 (48 h) of 20 mg/l. Effects of 2,6-Xylidine towards fish and algae were found not found in the same range providing a LC50 (96h) > 98 mg/l and an EC50 (72 h) > 100 mg/l, respectively. Thus, 2,6-Xylidine is considered acutely harmful for aquatic organisms. A chronic test on the most sensible species group (aquatic invertebrates) was performed in addition, revealing a NOEC (21 d) of 2.2 mg/l.
