Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Three studies on the similar substance CAS 4193-55-9 are available to assess the toxicity of the substance to microorganisms, but each of them presents some lacking: in two of them a water solution with 20 % of the substance was tested and for the third one just the summary is available. The Sewell study (1993) can be considered as the most reliable, since even if the tested substance concentration is low, the test was performed at 1000 mg/l, with no inhibitory effect. This set the result at > 200 mg/l, calculated on the substance effective concentration.

For completeness sake, further studies on the tretrasulphunated CAS 16324-27-9 and on the dihydroxyethylamino CAS 16470-24-9 derivatives are reported (Ciba-Geigy Ltd., 1989 and Ciba-Geigy Ltd., 1991, respectively). In both cases, the inhibition concentration at 3 hours was recorded as greater than 100 mg/l.

Detailed justification for Read Across is reported within the end point and in the Category Justification Report attached to the section 13.

In conclusion, all of those studies demonstrate that the substance does not inhibit the activity of activated sludge in concentrations higher or equal to 100 mg/l.
