Phototransformation in air

No experimental data are available. Under REACH, it is not mandatory to provide this information, however, the phototransformation in air was determined with the help of the computer program AOPWIN v1.92 (EPIWIN software) by US-EPA (Chemservice S.A., 2011). The program estimates the gas-phase reaction rate for the reaction between the most prevalent atmospheric oxidant (hydroxyl radicals) and the target chemical. For the test substance an overall gas-phase reaction constant (also called OH rate constant) of 280.7565 E-12 cm³/molecules-sec (= 0.000024257 cm³/molecules-day) and an atmospheric half-life of 27.43 minutes was calculated. Neither an ozone reaction nor any nitrate radical reaction is important for this substance.

Hydrolysis

Hydrolysis was experimentally investigated at pH 4, 7 and 9 and a temperature of 50 °C according to OECD Guideline 111 (Neuland, 2012). At pH 4 and 7, the substance can be regarded as hydrolytically stable. Tier 2 testing was required at pH 9, resulting in a half-life of 21.2 h with a rate constant of 9.09E-6 s-1.Caprolactam (Hexyhydro-2H-azepin-2 -one, CAS 105 -60 -2) was determined as transformation product by Mass Spectrometry (MS). Supporting information concerning the hydrolysis rate constant is given by the computer program HYDROWIN v1.00 (EPIWIN software) by US-EPA (Chemservice S.A., 2011).The program estimates the hydrolysis rate constants for specific organic classes and, furthermore, a chemical´s half-life under typical environmental conditions is also determined. In this case, AMIDES were detected as hydrolysable substance class. No neutral hydrolysis rate is evident.
