Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Not readily biodegradable but rapid primary degradation observed.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In two guideline studies conducted in compliance with OECD 301 B and OECD 301 C the substance was moderately/partly biodegradable (Ciba Geigy, No. 918201; Gakushuin University, G4 -9623D122CP). However, rapid primary degradation was observed. 3-(2-hydroxy-3,5-dimetylphenyl) butanoic acid was identified as degradation product (Gakushuin University, G4 -9623D122CP).

The chemical oxygen demand was determined to be 1.33 g O2/g test mat. (Ciba Geigy, No. 918197).

To support the experimental data, additional QSAR calculations were performed using Biowin v4.10 of the US EPA's EpiSuite v4.00. The overall Ready Biodegradability Prediction was "no".
